Stealthy ElePHant

In light of the recent violent “flashmobs” that have been breaking out in Philadelphia, Stealthy Elephant would like to change the format of our event. Instead of having the pillow fight as planned, we would like to instead  start the event by gathering as a form of solidarity with pillows to make a statement: We recognize that we aren’t like these other “flash mobs” and we don’t condone the violence that has been occurring.

What are we doing?

We will all come together and stand still with our pillows for a few minutes to make our statement. It would also be great if we all wear the color blue so we look like a unified group.  Then, after we have shown that we are a peaceful gathering (and are assured it is safe/we are not mistaken for a violent “flash mob”), we will continue on with the pillow fight!!  The start of the pillow fight will be signaled by an air horn.  Please note, however, that we will only continue on with the pillow fight if we see that it is safe and that it will not turn into something other than a community building activity.

Why is this important?

Our group’s purpose is to encourage and support safe, fun, all age friendly activities that utilize our often forgotten public spaces. The recent violent outbreaks threaten our ability to have such peaceful gatherings. It creates a sense of fear in the community of large groups of people. We need to stand up against the violence that has been occurring as well as to show people that our events serve a different purpose.

So, bring your pillow! Wear the color blue! Let’s stand up against violence together in “a moment of stillness”.  (and then have some pillow throwing fun )

Location: Washington Square Park

Day: April 3rd

Time: 3:00pm

When you arrive at the park, join the group and stand with your pillow.

Also, don’t forget to help clean up after we are done!  We want to enjoy Philadelphia’s public spaces…not abuse them!  We will have garbage bags to collect broken pillows/stuffing after the event.

PILLOW TALK 2010! (aka World Pillow Fight Day 2010)

What is it? A giant “impromptu” pillow fight outdoors!

Why? It’s World Pillow Fight Day!

“On Saturday April 3rd 2010, there will be massive pillow fights in cities around the world!”

Tell your friends, neighbors and people who sit next to you on the train! Lets make this year’s pillow fight BIGGER and BETTER than last years!

The details

This is a FREE event and is appropriate for ALL ages!

Location: TBA (will post the week of the event- but will be in or around Center Ctiy, Philadelphia)
Day: April 3rd, 2010
Time: 3:00pm (try and get there 5 min early!)

A few easy guidelines to follow:
1. Bring a soft pillow. (try and find one without feathers- we don’t wanna leave a mess)
2. Only pillows allowed inside your pillow case!
3. Before the fight starts, try and hide your pillow! You can use put it in a bag, inside your shirt, behind a lamp post…under a squirrel…
4. Wait for the signal to begin. We will announce the signal when we announce the location- so don’t forget to check!
5. Only hit people who have pillows.
6. Don’t hit people with cameras.
7. Don’t forget to take off your glasses!
8. And umm…GO CRAZY!

Last year over 16 cities across the world participated in world pillow fight day, but Philly wasn’t one of them. Let’s change that this year and show the world what a real pillow fight looks like!! We will be joining in with the likes of New York City, Washington, DC, Chicago, Boston, Vancouver, London, LA, Sydney, Paris, Budapest and 15 other cities!
